Ministerial Recognition & Accreditation

We encourage ministerial recognition and accreditation for the purpose of building strong local churches.  This is often referred to as ordination.  We prefer to speak of ministerial recognition because we believe it describes the issue more accurately.  Ordination is often considered as an event or a procedure that by itself makes a person something he or she was not previously.  We believe rather that this change is the work of God, and that what we do as ministerial associations is to recognise and affirm what God has already done in the individual concerned, and to provide attestation and credentials in support of this for the confidence and assurance of others.

Ministerial recognition is usually offered at two levels, referred to as licence and ordination. The higher ordination level would generally have some extra requirements in terms of gifting, experience and clarity.  It is common for a minister to be licensed first, and perhaps ordained at a later time when more clarity will have emerged.  Again, it is important to note that to license or ordain a person does not change that person into someone that he or she was not before. The emphasis is on recognition of what the Lord has done in the person in calling and gifting, which is then affirmed as we stand behind and alongside the minister in question.
